Bermuda’s squash players made a fine start to the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships on Saturday.

On a long first day of action in St Vincent & the Grenadines, there are plenty of the island’s representatives still in the hunt for medals.

In the girls under-13 category, McKenna Kyme made it through to the semi-finals after beating home favourite Caeli George in three sets. It was a good day for the Kyme family, with McKenna’s sibling Taylor making it through to the semi-finals in the under-11 girls event, where she will face No. 1 seed Gia Ghuran, of Trinidad & Tobago.

Bermuda’s three representatives in the boys under-11 age group all made it through day one of competition. Mason Smith, who is stop seed, beat Samir Radge Coomar without dropping a point in his opening match and will next face Philip Bodhi, of New Zealand.

George Qureshi and Benjamin Sherratt also won their first games to make it through to the next round.

There is an all-Bermuda clash in the quarter-finals of the boys under-17 event with the experienced Andrew Cox set to square off against Eli Carpol after both players made it through their first matches in straight sets.

Somers Stevenson received a bye through to the quarter-finals of the girls under-15 competition, where she will face Ava Vamvakas of Barbados.

Tyler Komposch and Gabrielle Turchiaro have made it through to the quarter-finals of the girls-under 17 competition and are scheduled to meet each other in the semis is they beat Sanjana Napallati and Mehar Trehan, of Jamaica, respectively.
