Cody Rego continues to shine over jumps
Bermuda’s Cody Rego continues to impress the equestrian world with a string of fine performances at the 2023 Great Lakes Festival last week adding to his burgeoning reputation.
Rego picked up first prize aboard 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding Domingos JT Z in the Traverse City Horse Show Equestrian 3’6” Premier Equitation Cup, with the talented duo scoring 94 points in the Hunter Phase to claim another win.
In the Jumper Phase, Rego scored 81 points to claim a commendable third place in the Overall class division.
As of last week, Rego continues to hold top spot in the Washington International Horse Show rankings, with the finals set to be held from October 23 to 29.
Qualification for the finals is based upon two leagues, with only the top 30 riders from the East Coast League and the top ten from the West Coast League invited to compete
Rego may soon start to be feeling the pressure as he has also qualified for two additional prestigious US Championships.
The ASPCA Maclay Finals is widely considered the ultimate equitation class for junior riders and is one of the most coveted championships in the country. Throughout the year riders compete in specific Maclay equitation classes with the goal of qualifying for the finals, which are held at the National Horse Show, Kentucky Horse Park, on November 4 and 5.
Rego will also be in action in the Dover Saddlery/United States Equestrian Federation Hunt Seat Medal Final, which comprises multiple rounds and is judged on equitation over a jumping course set at 3ft 6in.
Riders qualify by accumulating points in qualifying classes held throughout the competition season, with the finals taking place on October 15 at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show.
