At the of 36, Allan Douglas Jr knows his days of representing St George’s in Cup Match are numbered.

One of Clay Smith’s senior players failed to come to the party last year, contributing a a duck and five runs in his two innings, but Douglas is determined to bring the trophy back to St George’s before he calls time on his career.

“Obviously on my way out of the game, I would love to bring this cup back to St George’s,’’ Douglas said.

“We do have a lot of promising youths and if I am not able to do it, they will eventually but I am looking to do it before I retire and hopefully this year.

I am not retiring this year but I am looking to retire soon. I am 36 now, so I don't have many years left in Cup Match. I have a lot of years left in cricket but Cup Match, time is ticking for me.

“I’ve been doing the right things and I’ve put down a lot of bad habits to prepare myself not only in Cup Match but also in life.

“I am feeling good and I’ve been putting in the work for sure, doing a lot of training, on and off the field and preparing my mind. Obviously I am looking to make some runs and with the mental space I am in now, I don't see why I wouldn't.”

Douglas, who has floated around in the St George’s batting order, knows that his side faces a tough task to beat the champions.

“Somerset have a well-balanced team and it’s hard to trick a team in two days,” Douglas said.

“But I don't see why we cant trick Somerset to get 20 wickets this year.

“I’ve seen some of the greats get two ducks in a row and cricket is a humbling sport. You get a hundred this week and a duck the next. so it’s the most humbling sport you will ever play.

“I haven’t had much hits this season due to my team knocking down teams cheaply and the openers going out there and batting through the innings but I am looking to knock up a big score.
