Beach volleyball team advance to Commonwealth Youth Games quarter-finals
The Bermuda women’s beach volleyball team has reached the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad & Tobago.
The pair of Kayley Hamilton and Natalie Gazzard overcame Yvette Uwase and Claire Uwase, of Rwanda, 23-21, 21-16 in the round of 16 yesterday, to set up an encounter against Canada today.
Gazzard and Hamilton started the competition with a 2-0 loss to Kenya on Saturday, but bounced back to overcome the host nation 2-0, with scores of 21-13 and 21-9 on Sunday.
Following on from a seventh-place finish in Saturday’s women’s individual time-trial, cyclist Annabelle Miller narrowly missed out on successive top-ten finishes after recovering from a crash to place eleventh in the road race yesterday. Cameron Morris finished 23rd in the men’s time-trial.
Meanwhile, swimmers Brandon Adkins, Thomas Cechini and sisters Bella Howes and Marleigh Howes, sealed a respectable seventh-place finish in the 4 x 200 metres mixed relay final having clocked a time of 8min 20.78sec.
