Bermuda got a shoutout during a New York Live interview with brothers Nicholas and Jonathan Christopher, who are starring together in the latest revival of the musical Sweeney Toddon Broadway.

The brothers, sons of Hamilton town crier Ed Christopher, were interviewed by Joelle Garguilo, two-times Emmy-winning reporter, producer and host.

Ms Garguilo, who was interviewing for food, fashion and celebrity news outlet New York Live, asked the brothers how they made it from Bermuda to Broadway.

Nicholas responded: “With a lot of help. It was definitely a culture shock. I think where we found some solace, where we found our safe space, was in theatre. Our mother would wash the dance floor so that we could take tap dancing lessons. It took a big group effort.”

Ms Garguilo asked why people should come out to see the show, to which Jonathan replied: “You get to see two brothers from Bermuda making it big on the big Broadway.”

The brothers also revealed how their father promotes his sons to everyone he meets.

Nicholas said: “My dad does tours of Bermuda and he tells everybody, so every time we come out of the stage doors, there is someone who has been to Bermuda who had the show recommended to them by our dad.”

Sweeney Todd tells the grisly story of a barber who, after being wrongfully imprisoned, returns to 1840s London intent on getting revenge for the rape and death of his wife. It is showing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York.

During the interview, the host asked the pair, who have been working as professional actors for more than a decade on Broadway and across North America, where they like to go for lunch. They took her to the Glass House Tavern, where they have dined with family and friends for 12 years.

During lunch, Ms Garguilo asked the brothers to describe the premise of Sweeney Todd.

Nicholas said: “It’s a melodrama about what happens when a person is pushed to their limits. Sweeney Todd is about what happens when you lose control of your rage, when you lose your perspective on life and when you have been wronged to the point that it can push you to act outside of yourself.”

The brothers also gave a brief rendition of one of the songs they sing in the show together.
