A man required 34 staples to close a wound on his head after being attacked and robbed in a derelict building in Hamilton last month.

Jeremiah Burrows, 52, admitted to robbing and injuring the homeless man when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

Burrows entered the building on Brunswick Street and beat Terrance Parsons with a board on July 24.

He then stole Mr Parsons’s grey shorts, with $250 in cash in the pockets, and left the area.

A member of the public called an ambulance for Mr Parsons after seeing his injuries the day after the attack.

Once at the hospital, Mr Parsons confirmed to police that Burrows, who he claimed to have known his entire life, was the man who robbed and wounded him.

Burrows was arrested for the offences later that day.

Burrows also pleaded guilty to robbing another man in September 2022 during his court appearance.

The court heard that Burrows placed a knife to the neck of his former brother-in-law, John Soares, at his Devonshire home and threatened to kill him unless he gave him money.

Burrows took $500 from Mr Soares, whose temple was cut during the incident, and fled the premises, leaving the knife in the sink.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to September 20 for sentencing and remanded Burrows into custody until that time.
