Bermudian artist returns with ‘guardian jug’ treasure hunt
Masterworks will be hosting an event where a Bermudian artist will offer clues as to where he has scattered pieces of art around the island.
It will be held on September 1 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at the Rosegarden in the Botanical Gardens.
The event will celebrate artist Jon Legere as he releases his new collection of ceramic “guardian jugs”, little jugs with faces, referred to as “face jugs” in some South American and Eastern European cultures.
The pieces by Mr Legere are bright and bold in colour, nine to eleven inches high and about four inches wide.
Their purpose is to ward off evil spirits.
In 2022, Masterworks partnered with Mr Legere for a previous Finders Keepers exhibition.
In that exhibition, his paintings held clues on the location of “guardian jugs” hidden on the island. They were made in the Catskills mountains of New York.
The New York-based artist has hosted treasure-hunt-style events previously in New York and Mexico City.
Masterworks welcomes the public to a night of cocktails and food to celebrate the release of the new collection of “guardian jugs”.
