Unbeaten Cleveland cement place at the top of First Division table
Unbeaten leaders Cleveland County kept their Athene T20 First Division title hopes firmly on track courtesy of a 25-run win over Devonshire Rec at Wellington Oval on Sunday.
Cleveland posted 130 for eight after being sent to bat with Kioshi Trott top scoring with 26. Allan Douglas Jr (24), Q’Shai Darrell (17), Keith Whorms Jr (15) and captain Mackih McGowan (12) were the others making starts at the crease.
Clay Darrell (two for 16), Lorenzo Simmons (two for 28) and Drewonde Bascome (two for 20) claimed two wickets each for Devonshire.
Devonshire replied with 105 for eight in their allotted overs with wicketkeeper Gerald Simons top scoring with 32 and Bascome chipping in with 22 and Simmons 16.
Q’Shai Darrell led the Cleveland attack with four for 17 while Jelani Richardson (two for 25) and McGowan (two for 20) claimed two wickets apiece.
Elsewhere, Warwick thrashed Flatts by seven wickets at Somerset Cricket Club where Malachi Jones shone with both bat and ball.
The national team player claimed two for 11 to help restrict Flatts to 80 for seven after they elected to take first strike.
Jones then led the chase with 27 as Warwick replied with 83 for three in 9.5 overs.
Dajon Carey (30) and Kevin Lambe (11) were the only Flatts batters in double figures.
Assisting Jones during the chase were Zeri Tomlinson (18), Kwasi James (10) and captain Staphen Dill (11) who all chipped in with useful contributions with the bat.
Regino Smith (one for 16) was Flatts most successful bowler.
The remaining game saw Southampton Rangers beat Western Counties champions Somerset Bridge by 17 runs in another low scoring affair at Southampton Oval.
Southampton posted 107 for seven after electing to bat with Keishon Wilson top scoring with an unbeaten 27. Swayne Campbell (20), Jaloni Albouy (12) and captain Dalin Richardson (13) were the others in double figures.
Second change Shawn Riley (three for 11) was the pick of the Bridge bowling while Samir Tavares (two for 20) and Donnie Charles (two for 18) took two wickets each.
Bridge were nicely poised at 52 for one before suffering a massive collapse that saw seven wickets fall for 16 runs in five overs.
Adrian Burrows and Swayne Raynor added a timely 17 for the ninth wicket to keep Bridge’s victory hopes alive.
However, Southampton would not be denied as they managed to dismiss the visitors whose last two wickets fell for five runs in the space of an over.
Riley also led the Bridge batting with 38 with wicketkeeper Burrows (11 not out) their only other batter in double figures.
Donte Brangman was the pick of the Southampton bowling with three for six while Jahir Smith (three for 21) also took three wickets and Campbell two for ten.
