Andre Lambe will be aiming to defend his American Boxing Organisation welterweight title when he steps into the ring against Bryan Springs in Cleveland, Texas, on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who won the vacant welterweight regional title after defeating American Cristiano Luciano at The Shed in Dockyard by unanimous decision in January, will be putting his belt on the line against fellow southpaw Springs in a six-round contest at the Cleveland Civic Centre.

His 32-year-old opponent has won just three and drawn two of his professional bouts to date, while Lambe will be aiming to maintain his flawless record among the paid ranks, which was extended to eight successive victories with a stoppage of Filipino Ronniel Tabayag in May.

This weekend’s bout will be only Lambe’s second outside Bermuda after his win over American Dominique Williams in Orlando in July 2021.

“It’s exciting for me to have a change of scenery and do something a little different,” he said. “It’s important for me to somewhat step out of my comfort zone and test myself.

“I needed something to push me and give me a different motivation. It’s a chance to take my career to the next level.”

Springs comes into the bout on the back of five successive defeats, all by unanimous decision and Lambe may also take confidence from the fact that one of his opponents’ ten losses came against Luciano in March last year.

However, while Lambe may be looked upon as the favourite against journeyman Springs, he is taking nothing for granted as he remains aware of the greater risk of choosing to defend his title overseas.

“There is definitely more risk with stepping out of Bermuda and fighting in the United States,” he added.

“However, I think the fact I’m putting my title on the lines speaks for itself. I’m always ready for a challenge. I’m hungry to showcase myself in other places outside of Bermuda and show people what I’m all about.”
