Two young Bermudians gained valuable work experience during a summer internship programme at Auto Solutions, the Pembroke vehicle dealership.

The company said Amari Stewart and Jahkeel Smith had gained hands-on knowledge in service and maintenance procedures adhering to manufacturer guidelines, diagnosis of complex electrical and mechanical vehicle systems and the fundamental principles of customer service.

They also had the opportunity to delve into the logistics and distribution of spare parts.

Glen Smith, managing director of Auto Solutions said: “We are dedicated to developing young Bermudian talent in the automotive industry and providing hands-on learning opportunities that encourage the advancement of Bermudian professionals in the field.

“Amari and Jahkeel have been a great addition to the Auto Solutions team this summer and we look forward to witnessing their future successes.”

The company said Mr Stewart was an automotive engineering student at Brunel University in London with aspirations to work with super car manufacturers.

He said: “My time here at Auto Solutions was well appreciated. They have amazing staff who were more than willing to show me the ropes in the different departments I was placed in.

“With my manager, Jahmal Watts, allowing me to move around the establishment, I gained well-rounded insight as to how the dealership operates on a day-to-day basis.

“I’ve learnt new things and met great people in each department and have left with memories and experiences that I can take with me throughout my journey. I loved my time here and given the opportunity, I would most definitely come back again.”

Mr Smith is a participant in the Family Centre’s “Building my Future” summer internship programme and returned to Auto Solutions for a second consecutive summer.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far working at Auto Solutions. Initially I was expecting to just watch and be told what to do but I was surprised to be involved and incorporated into day-to-day operations.

“I have learnt so much, which has raised my interest and enthusiasm. I look forward to continuing to learn and work at Auto Solutions.”

Mr Watts, manager at Auto Solutions, said: “In keeping with our commitment to expose young Bermudians to the automotive industry, Auto Solutions is pleased to have these young men intern with us over the summer.

“Both have shown commitment and an eagerness to learn and they have great potential to excel in this industry.”
