RA holds further meetings on offshore wind farm
Two town hall meetings on the island’s potential for a 60-megawatt wind farm have been scheduled by the Regulatory Authority.
A gathering in June at Penno’s Wharf in St George’s heard that the project, slated to be completed by the end of 2029 if given approval, could cost between $250 million and $450 million, and would generate about 30 per cent of the annual electricity demand in Bermuda.
Two further meetings have now been announced by the RA, with the first at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on September 6 from 6pm to 8pm and the second on September 7 at the Willowbank Resort conference centre in Sandys, also from 6pm to 8pm.
Nigel Burgess, the RA’s head of regulation, said turnout at the initial town hall meeting had been “overwhelming”.
He added: “We are organising added town hall meetings to ensure that those who couldn't attend the first event can participate in discussions at either of the two venues.
“As no final decisions have yet been made about the potential adoption of offshore wind farms as a renewable energy source, these sessions are a great opportunity for the public to hear about our latest research findings and to get answers to their questions or concerns.”
