To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Centre Against Abuse (CAA), on the 24th October 2019, the Board of Directors paid tribute to the founding members, employees and volunteers at a reception at Chubb. Since 1979, the doors of this charity have been open to help, support and safeguard hundreds of adults and children, who have been the vulnerable victims of abuse.

Centre Against Abuse became a registered charity in 1979 under the name the Physical Abuse Centre. CAA’s mission is to give crisis support services to male and female adult victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault and to educate the community by providing building blocks for healthy relationships.

CAA’s services began 40 years ago and is still providing vital, functioning services including 24/7 helpline, counselling, court advocacy and safe housing assistance dedicated specifically to victims of abuse on island.

At the reception, sponsored by CHUBB, were founding members Dr. Andrew West and Deborah Jackson; June-Ann and Allen Furbert, who managed and lived at the former shelter that provided safe housing for domestic abuse victims; and barrister Patricia Harvey, who under the leadership of the late June Augustus (former Executive Director) provided legal services for the Physical Abuse Centre.
