Appleby Partner Duncan Card will discuss the future of artificial intelligence in the insurance industry, at the upcoming Bermuda Captive Conference.

The three-day conference, organised by the Bermuda Captive Network, is the largest and longest-running industry event in Bermuda, attracting more than 800 delegates.

Mr Card will be part of a panel, Powered by AI: Exploring the Future of Artificial Intelligence in Insurance, on Tuesday.

He is a member of Appleby’s global technology and innovation practice, and has more than three decades of experience providing legal services to a broad range of complex commercial transactions internationally.

His practice includes technology and innovation – including all IT contracts, fintech, insurtech, and privacy and data protection, among other things.

Prior to joining Appleby a year ago Mr Card was recognised as one of Canada’s leading commercial technology lawyers, and in 2021 published Information Technology Transactions: Business, Management and Legal Strategies.

Appleby will be a sponsor of the three-day annual conference at the Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club kicking off on Monday.

Appleby insurance partner Matthew Carr, a member of the Bermuda Captive Network, said: “Captives are an important part of the wider (re)insurance market in Bermuda with a continued increase in captives being formed on the island.

“We are also seeing an increase in activity from existing captive structures which are leveraging existing captives for a number of expanded uses, many of which will be discussed at this conference, along with other trends and developments.”
