Man admits sexual relationship with minor
A man who had a sexual relationship with a minor will be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court next month.
Jahsyi Smith-Wilkinson, 31, admitted having unlawful carnal knowledge of the teenager between September 2018 and March 2019 when he appeared in court yesterday.
The court heard that Smith-Wilkinson and the girl met while both working at the same business.
At the time, the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was aged between 14 and 16, and Smith-Wilkinson was 26.
Prosecutor Matthew Frick said the teenager first viewed Smith-Wilkinson as a big brother, but the two eventually became a couple and had intercourse multiple times.
The girl eventually told their boss about the relationship and the Department of Child and Family Services reported the incident to police.
Magistrate Maria Sofianos ordered that a social inquiry report be written for Smith-Wilkinson, adjourned the case to October 30 for sentencing and extended his $5,000 bail until that time.
