Final BUEI Kids Hour to feature book and film on octopuses
Children and parents can learn more about an eight-legged ocean invertebrate this weekend.
The next Kids Hour Saturday, which will take place on Saturday at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, will feature a film and children’s book about octopuses.
The film, Bright Now: Octopus Encounters, documents a giant Pacific octopus laying 100,000 eggs and an East Pacific red octopus awed by an underwater camera.
The children’s book Oozey Octopus: A Tale of a Clever Critter is about a cunning octopus who must escape from tricky situations.
A BUEI spokeswoman said: “Octopus are highly intelligent and some of the most behaviourally diverse of all invertebrates.
“With increasing changes occurring to our oceans, we can find inspiration from these clever creatures, known for their out-of-the-box thinking.”
The event, which will be the final one of the year, will be held at 11am and 2pm. It is free for BUEI members and caregivers and $4 for non-members.
The price of admission includes entry into the BUEI’s Discovery Centre and caregivers are required to stay at the event with their children.
People can call the institute’s gift shop on 294-0204 to reserve a spot for Saturday as spaces will be limited.
Held on the third Saturday of every month, each Kids Hour Saturday centres on a different ocean creature. Jellyfish will be featured in January.
