Mia Fishel fulfilled a dream after being handed her debut for the United States on Monday night.

The 22-year-old, whose father Patrick is Bermudian, came on in the 65th minute in the 2-0 victory over South Africa, in a game which also marked talismanic Megan Rapinoe’s 203rd, and final, international appearance.

After the game, Fishel took to social media to reflect on the momentous occasion.

“Dreams to reality . . .and it’s just the beginning,” she wrote on Instagram.

Fishel hit the headlines last month after signing for Women's Super League champions Chelsea, from Tigres in Mexico, for a reported $250,000 after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

California-born Fishel joined Tigres in January 2022 and helped them to the Liga MX Femenil title in her first season, finishing as the league's top scorer with 17 goals.

She also won the prestigious Golden Ball at the Under-20 Concacaf Championship in 2020 after helping to lead the US to title triumph, scoring 13 goals, including a brace in the 4-1 victory over Mexico in the final.

Fishel’s profile continues to rise in Britain, with members of the Chelsea squad featuring on Versusuk.com, which “champions the future of football and its rising influence on new music and culture with the aim to provide access to the personalities driving this cultural convergence and explore the inspirations fuelling it”.

In the interview, Fishel reveals her anticipation to play at Stamford Bridge as well as her hope to inspire young people around the world.

"I’m excited about playing at Stamford Bridge next month,“ she said.

“Obviously it’s a dream come true being able to play at a stadium like that in front of our fans. It holds a lot of history so I can’t wait to experience that with the team.

“I’m also very excited to kick off the season with such an amazing group of people and players! I’ve learned so much already with this team, so I can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on during pre-season.

Fishel was also asked where she hoped she would be in five years’ time.

“I want to be consistent USWNT player and be considered one of the best strikers in the world,” she said.

“As a person, I see myself continuing to inspire the youth to be their authentic self. I’d like to support the next generation by providing camps, and attending public speaking conferences that discuss access and opportunities for young people.

“I also see myself helping to look after our oceans in some way. All of those things are really important to me.”
