Former Bermuda coach Gus Logie is back on the market after his association with Bailey’s Bay has come to an end on the island.

Logie, 62, has worked with Bay since 2020, when he returned to Bermuda, before assuming the position of head coach at Sea Breeze Oval last year, but the former West Indies batter is now open to working with anyone as he looks to find a new home for his talents on island

“I’m a free agent and I’m open to work with anyone as there is no long-term arrangement between me and Bailey’s Bay,’’ Logie said.

“I'm going to be on island with my family and whatever opportunity presents itself to coach while on island as well as off island, I'm open to discussions. I'm not in a rush to do anything at this point in time.

“Whatever I do will be on my terms, I've established myself and I know what I can do and I know what I’m worth.”

Logie guided Bermuda to their first World Cup appearance in 2007 and took soundings from the Bermuda Cricket Board about reprising his role when he returned to the island three years ago, but his family situation meant a full-time position was out of the question.

“I said to them that I would be a resource in terms of a consultant,’’ Logie said.

“I didn't want to be national coach as I couldn't commit to that and that wasn’t the reason I was here. I came here to support my family.

“They didn't have room for a consultant and they wanted a national coach, so that’s why they went and got one.

“I have done a lot of work for them with the women’s programme and I think I've done enough since I've been here, a lot of it for charity.”

Logie had a fruitful 2023 season with Bay, who won the Premier Division 50 Overs title, shared the Knockout Cup with Cleveland County, retained the Eastern Counties Cup and finished second St George’s in the Athene T20 Premier Division.

Reflecting on the success, the coach is delighted to have picked up three quarters of the silverware available on island.

“Last year, when I came on board we talked about what we wanted to do,’’ Logie said.

“All they were interested in really as a club was winning the Eastern Counties Cup. I said if you really want to be a successful club, you’ve got to aim a bit more and higher than that. You've got to bring young people into the set-up, have youth programmes, have coaching programmes.

“We put a lot of energy into retaining Eastern Counties and we retained that. We also talked about the opportunity to win championships and we didn't know how many championships were up for grabs until the season started.

“The objective was to retain the County Cup, which we did and also to win the championship, so winning three championships in the season out of four can’t be sneezed at.

“We had an opportunity to win all four, but it just wasn't to be. I was disappointed because we put ourselves in a position to win the last one but at the end of the day I am grateful that we won three.

“So I want to congratulate St George’s on their T20 win but I also want to congratulate Bay on a fantastic season.

“To retain the Eastern Counties and also to win two 50-overs championships was commendable, so credit must go to all the players, the management, the coaching staff and the fans, who I want to really and truly thank for the support.

With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Regional Qualifier fast approaching, Logie will be keeping a close eye on some of the players he has been coaching recently.

“We have four players who are in the national set-up so again we want to wish them well from a Bay perspective and from a national perspective,” Logie said.

“We want to wish them and the national team all the best for the upcoming qualifiers We hope they can make not only Bay proud but the national community proud as well.”
