Drink-driver caught after being seen riding over centre line

Police caught a drink-driving motorist after seeing him riding over the centre yellow line in Hamilton, a court heard.

Nelson Rodrigues, 42, from Warwick, admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last week.

The court heard that police saw Rodrigues swerving left to right on his bike on Queen Street on August 20. Officers followed and stopped him on Happy Valley Road.

While talking to him, they saw that his eyes were red and speech was slurred, and smelt alcohol on his breath.

Rodriguez was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed 195.6 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson disqualified Rodrigues from driving all vehicles for 18 months and fined him $1,500.
