Christine Dailey seals victory in PartnerRe Women’s 5K
Christine Dailey came out on top in the PartnerRe Women’s 5k Run at the Camden Grounds of the Botanical Gardens on Sunday.
Among an impressive field of 175 competitors in the biggest female-only race in Bermuda, Dailey put in a dominant display to cross the line in a winning time of 19min 30sec.
The tussle for second place proved much closer with Ashley Couper finishing in 20:41, narrowly beating Maria Kemiji-McDonald, who was 13 seconds adrift.
Kristen Robinson took fourth place in 21:15, closely followed by Teresa Ruiz in 21:21 to complete the top five places.
The junior 2K run for competitors aged between seven and 14 was also hard fought with Amaris Munya taking victory in 6:26, just pipping Naomi MacGuinness (6:31), while Kelise Wade rounded out the podium places in 6:38.
The event also included a competitive 5k walk in which Laura Wright came out on top, crossing the line in 37:07, ahead of Arlene MacGuinness (38:07) and Nancy Andrews-Sousa (38:32).
The event which aims to support ‘Women helping Women’ charities on island this year selected the Eliza Dolittle Society Food Programme.
Since 1998 the race has raised close to $500,000 for female-related causes in Bermuda. These include programmes to confront physical abuse, support rape victims, reduce poverty, educate teenagers, combat breast cancer, and fund equipment and initiatives supporting the treatment of women’s health.
