North Field: (Canada won toss): Canada (2pts) beat Panama (0) by 163 runs

Opening batter Aaron Johnson’s vicious 121 runs, off 59 balls, led Canada to a big win over Panama and kept the pressure up on Bermuda in the race for the T20 World Cup.

Man of the match Johnson, the first batter to score a hundred in the tournament, belted 11 fours and six fours for a career-best knock as Canada made 230 for four in 20 overs. Panama could manage only 67 in 17.1 overs in response.

Johnson is not giving up the fight to play on the biggest stage of them all and sees it as his responsibility to help boost his side’s run-rate.

“The net run-rate is very important for us,’’ Johnson said.

“We know we have a lot of work to do and I’m really happy that we’re fighting back. We’re showing a spirit as a team and we’re showing what we’re made of. We’re coming together strong and let’s see how we gear up.

“The wicket was a bit tricky early, the ball was also a bit slow so I took some time to get used to the pace off the wicket, but it was a good knock for me and the Canadian team.”
