Google to discuss subsea cable at Bermuda Tech Summit
A Google representative will be speaking at the Bermuda Tech Summit on Tuesday, on the topic of the tech giant’s new subsea cable landing in Bermuda.
David Robles, Google’s global subsea construction lead, and Carey Olson partner Steven Rees Davies, will open the final day of the Bermuda Tech Summit to discuss Nuvem, Portuguese for cloud, a new transatlantic subsea cable system connecting Portugal, Bermuda and the United States.
Mr Robles said: “Bermuda is fast emerging as a hub for international connectivity, embracing the long-term economic opportunities that subsea cable infrastructure can bring.”
He was looking forward to the dialogue with local tech experts about the Nuvem cable, and how the project represents a long-term partnership and investment in Bermuda’s digital future.
“Bermuda’s technology infrastructure improvements are a focus of the Bermuda Government’s economic development strategy,” said David Hart, the Bermuda Business Development Agency chief executive. “Therefore we at the BDA are keenly focused on facilitating partnerships that underscore Bermuda’s ability to serve on a world stage.”
He said Google’s presence at the conference was a real coup that would attract interest locally and internationally.
“Tickets are still available from our website,” he said. “I suggest booking immediately, time is running out!”
There will be networking opportunities for conference-goers on Sunday evening at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on the Regency Terrace, featuring local entertainment, firepits, and Bermuda Gosling’s signature drinks.
The Bermuda Tech Summit will close with the Relm Wrap Party held under the stars at the Princess Beach Club.
The fifth annual Bermuda Tech Summit, presented by the BDA, will be held from October 8 to 10 at the Hamilton Princess.
