The National Museum of Bermuda is hosting six Artist Talks during a new month-long cultural event.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority’s inaugural Bermuda Art Month, taking place this month, features Meredith Andrews and Jayde Gibbons, both photographers, and Graham Foster, an artist, each presenting two talks.

The talks will be held at the National Museum of Bermuda in Dockyard, where works from each artist are being displayed.

Homestead, an exhibition by Ms Andrews, presently showing in the Commissioner’s House at the museum, includes large-format portraits of multi-generational families at their homes.

She will discuss her creative process, connections with the families she photographed and how her portraits link to the museum’s community project Bermuda Family Scrapbook.

Mr Foster’s talk will centre on his famous The Hall of History mural that spans 1,000 feet of wall space in the Commissioner’s House.

A spokeswoman for the museum said: “Tracing the 500-year human history of Bermuda, this grand mural has captured the imagination of all ages, telling the island’s story with vibrant detail, irreverent humour and poignant observations.

“This is a rare opportunity to learn about Foster’s inspiration, technique and the stories that breathe life into his art.”

Ms Gibbons will talk about the creation of her newest exhibition, Family (Fam I Love You).

The spokeswoman added: “Through a collection of intimate and candid photographs, Gibbons explores the enduring power of family bonds in the face of profound sorrow and bereavement. Her photographs chronicle poignant moments from five local funerals and celebrations of life.”

Ms Gibbons’s work also links to the Bermuda Family Scrapbook.

Elena Strong, the museum’s executive director, said: “I encourage visitors and locals to come to the museum for the Artist Talks, a unique opportunity to meet talented local artists whose work is on display at the National Museum of Bermuda.

“Contemporary art is a powerful entry point to engage with Bermuda’s past and heritage. We look forward to having Meredith, Jayde and Graham share their creative processes and insight into their work.”
