Ewart Brown, the former premier, has put a multimillion-dollar Smith’s home that he has owned for more than 20 years up for sale.

Gombey House, at 29 Ap Owen Road, is on the Rego Sotheby’s realty site with an asking price of $4.25 million.

Dr Brown told The Royal Gazette that he and his wife, Wanda, had relocated three years ago to a condo in Smith’s, “not too far from my childhood home”.

“I am not moving off the island at this time but I am spending more time in other places where I am not being persecuted by my political enemies,” he said.

“I am 77 years old and I will not wait until the proverbial next year to bring some more joy into our lives.

“Our youngest grandchild is almost 2 and we plan to spend more time with him in California.”

The two-storey waterfront home, which backs on to Sue Woods Bay, is screened with palm trees at the front with an infinity swimming pool near the waterside.

The property, along with many along the South Shore in particular, took a hit from Hurricane Fabian in 2003, not long after the couple moved in.

Gombey House, which sits on a little over an acre of land, comes with four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

It has electronic gates, with a water fountain at the front steps, and is equipped with hurricane-resistant glass.

The back garden has a poolhouse and hot tub.

The property is described by the realtor as exhibiting “luxury and thoughtful design, offering a lifestyle of opulence and refinement”.
