Hamilton bus terminal to close for resurfacing work
Hamilton Central Bus Terminal will be closed temporarily from October 23.
The Corporation of Hamilton said the closure, which is expected to last until the end of the month, is necessary to carry out resurfacing work at the terminal’s entry and exit points.
A temporary terminal will be set up on Victoria Street between Cedar Avenue and Wesley Street.
Two sections of road will be closed off to motorists while work is carried out —Washington Street from Victoria Street to Church Street, and Victoria Street from Cedar Avenue to Dismont Drive.
A corporation spokeswoman added that the public will have access to board and depart buses along Victoria Street as follows:
• All buses travelling west will be stationed in the westbound lane outside the public bathrooms on Victoria Street, towards the junction with Wesley Street
• All buses travelling east will be stationed in the eastbound lane opposite the public bathrooms on Victoria Street towards the junction of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street. Parking will be restricted in these areas
• All cycle parking bays located along Victoria Street between Cedar Avenue and Washington Street will be off-limits to the public during the above dates. Parking will be available in the City Hall car park for parking permit holders for the restricted areas. These permit holders have been made aware of this temporary arrangement
• Buses coming into the temporary depot will do so as follows: buses entering from the east will turn right on to Dundonald Street and then left on to Washington Street and left back on to Victoria Street heading east to exit back out to the east
The dates for the closure were selected to coincide with midterm school breaks.
Traffic management measures along with signage and barriers will be in place for the duration of the works.
