Cody Rego sixth in prestigious US event

In a competition entered by 206 equestrians, the Bermudian carried on with his impressive trajectory to make it to the final testing round.
The Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunt Seat Medal is comprised of multiple rounds and is judged on equitation over a set jump course at 3ft 6in. After all the 206 riders competed in the first round, judges Jack Towell and Timmy Kees selected the top 24 to move on to the second round of jumping.
From the second round, Rego, 18, aboard Ironman went further to the decisive phase of testing to determine the championship, and eventually settled for a commendable sixth place.
Apart from last Sunday’s achievement, Rego has also booked his spot in finals of two major events in the US. First up for him is the Washington International Horse Show taking place from Monday and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Maclay Final Championship on November 4 and 5.
With an accumulative total of an excellent 5,568 points, Cody holds the top-ranking spot for the WIHS in the Equitation East division. Points gathered in qualifying classes during the course of the season qualifies the riders for the WIHS finals.
The ASPCA Maclay Final Championship, to be held at National Horse Show, Kentucky Horse Park is considered to be one of the most coveted championships in the US. To qualify for the final, riders take part in specified Maclay equitation classes right through the year, with the goal of qualifying for the ultimate event.
