Kavin Smith starts MTB title defence in fine style
Kavin Smith got off to the perfect start in his One Communications MTB Race Series title defence by winning the season opener held on South Shore Beach Trails.
Competing among 38 riders in the Male Open 60 Minute category, Smith took the honours, completing ten laps in a time of 1hr 2min 26sec.
He was followed by Alan Potts, who completed the same laps in 1:03:48, as did third-placed Jackson Langley in 1:05:56.
In the Women’s Open 60 minutes, Panzy Olander claimed victory after completing eight laps in 1:02:10, ahead of Charlotte Millington, who managed a lap less in 1:02:23 and Jennifer Wilson, who also complete seven laps in a time of 1:02:45.
The top three riders in the Male Open 30 Minute category all completed four laps, with Kent Richardson taking prevailing in a time of 32 minutes, ahead of Sherman Darrell (35:13) and Ryan Wilson (36:53).
Mark Richardson was victorious in the Male Novice category, managing three laps in 30:56; one more than Alexander Roque, who crossed the line in 41:15.
Katrina Carr won the Women’s Novice division completing three laps in 35:19; fractionally ahead of Olivia Bishop, who did the same amount of laps in 36:46.
In the Male 13 to 16 category, Zachary Moniz was the top cyclist having managed five laps in 36:32, while Skye Ferguson prevailed in the corresponding female division, completing four laps in 33:52.
There was also joy for Hannes Swart, who took the honours in the Male 9 to 12 category after completing four laps in 18 minutes flat, while Naomi MacGuinness came out first in the corresponding female division, managing the same laps in 18:08.
