Kim Wilson to discuss mental health at conference

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, will discuss mental health at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute tomorrow.

Her presentation, which will begin at about 11am, will open the second day of the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation’s conference, Moving Forward Together.

Psychologists, nurses and other mental health experts will touch on topics, including social media’s effect on young people, the challenges to receiving proper mental healthcare and how pharmacogenetics can change the industry during the two-day event, which will be hosted by Woman of the Year Patrina “Power Girl” O’Connor-Paynter.

R. Scott Pearman and Anna Nielson-Williams, from the Bermuda Hospitals Board, will discuss results from an assessment of mental health services on the island during the conference’s final panel, which is scheduled for 4.20pm to 4.50pm tomorrow.

James MacDonald, BMHF chairman, said: “This conference is a cornerstone of our commitment to shedding light on mental health issues in Bermuda.

“By bringing together experts, advocates and the community, we are fostering a holistic dialogue that can lead to real solutions and support for those affected.”

Highlighting the charity’s dedication to creating a forum to discuss mental health, a statement read: “The Moving Forward Together conference is more than an event; it's a catalyst for change and a beacon of hope.

“Whether you're a professional, a family member or someone facing mental health challenges, this conference is for you.

“Together, we can break down barriers, address stigmas and pave the way for a healthier, more supportive community.”
