‘Beast’ Norris to strut his stuff on Bermuda stage
Darren “Beast” Norris is among a large contingent of top overseas contenders expected to grace the stage at the upcoming International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Pro League Caribbean Grand Prix in Bermuda.
The Barbados native is fresh off a dominant display at this month’s Florida Ultimate Grand Prix in Miami where he captured multiple honours, including the Overall Men’s Physique Classic title.
“Darren has already stated that he is coming to Bermuda and actually most of the overall winners at that particular show, which had over 300 competitors, are coming to Bermuda,” said Ross Caesar, the event co-promoter and six-times Bermuda champion.
The event will take place at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts at CedarBridge Academy on December 7 and is open to all local and international amateur athletes.
There will be much at stake, as competitors contest various categories for eight IFBB Pro League pro cards up for grabs to be awarded to the overall winners.
The categories include bodybuilding, classic physique, men’s physique, figure, bikini, fitness, women’s physique and women’s bodybuilding.
The number of athletes expected to compete at the upcoming event has exceeded the expectations of organisers.
“Right now we are anticipating at least 150 both international and local,” added Caesar, who earned an IFBB professional card competing at the Joe Weider’s Olympic Amateur South America in Medellin, Colombia, this year.
“We’re definitely looking at having the most local competitors to date in any competition here and definitely at least 100 international athletes coming to the island from Europe, USA, Canada and the Caribbean.
“Closer to the show we will get more entries, most definitely from USA, because it’s two weeks after their nationals. We will have athletes trickling down from that nationals coming to Bermuda that hasn’t obtained their pro cards.”
The entry deadline is November 19.
“We are almost about to 70 and we expect that number to climb,” Caesar added.
“Most people will enter close to the deadline and what’s interesting is that we have a lot of former champions who have competed in Bermuda before that are coming out to do this show. We have Sueallen Lottimore, she is a former Ms Bermuda, and Susan Rebello, who is also a former Ms Bermuda.”
Competitors will be judged by a five-member panel, which includes Steve Weinberger, who is regarded as the IFBB’s leading judge.
The grand prix will also feature a medical village, health and fitness Expo and various activities for children.
