Plea in false information case changed to not guilty

A man charged with spreading false information through a telecommunications service changed his plea the day he was supposed to be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo referred Jared Gordon, 34, to Mental Health Treatment Court when he admitted the offence in April.

Mr Gordon, from Sandys, allegedly claimed to have fathered children with several public figures, including Cindy Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, in a video that was reportedly filmed in September 2022.

As of April, the video, titled Baby Mamas, had been viewed more than 60 times.

Court staff found Mr Gordon unsuitable for mental health and drug treatment programmes, and requested that he be resentenced for the alleged offence.

However, Mr Gordon denied the charge when he appeared in court, telling magistrate Craig Attridge that he “wants to have a fair trial”.

He also denied sending a message of “indecent character” via a telecommunications service.

Mr Gordon spent time in prison for threatening David Burt through a series of e-mails written in 2017 and 2018, and allegedly threatened the Premier again via social media in 2020.

Mr Attridge adjourned the case to November 8 and extended Mr Gordon’s $2,500 bail until that time.
