Toby Wright announced his arrival on the local snooker scene in a big way at Warwick Workmen’s Club on Wednesday.

The Spanish Point Boat Club II player achieved remarkable back-to-back victories on his club and Bermuda Snooker Association League debut to hit the ground running.

Wright prevailed 47-40 and 47-36 over Warwick Workmen’s Club II’s Scott Barnes to complete an impressive sweep over his formidable opponent.

“It was a great game and he’s [Barnes] obviously a strong player,” Wright, who won the first frame on the black, told The Royal Gazette. “It was a tough match. Both were close and I look forward to getting some more games in.”

In a twist of fate, Wright was paired against Barnes who played an influential role in his decision to join forces with Spanish Point Boat Club and showcase his talents in the league.

“I was playing with my dad [Bill] at Spanish Point Boat Club a few weeks ago and Scott [Barnes] and John Orr were there,” Wright added. “Scott noticed me playing with my dad and recommended to John to have a word with me.

“They came over and said ‘there’s a spot-on the team, are you interested in joining us?’

“I said ‘sure, let’s give it a go’ and Wednesday was my first match against Scott, which was a funny coincidence given he recruited me in the league in the first place.”

Spanish Point Boat Club II were firmly in the driver’s seat after Tyler Moniz dispatched Warwick II captain Steven Bremar 69-39 in the first of 2 frames between the pair to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, Bremar won the second frame 66-38 to ignite the hosts fightback which was completed after team-mate Zane DeSilva prevailed 47-41 and 61-46 in back-to-back frames against Point captain Orr.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, defending league champions Sandys Boat Club came from behind to defeat hosts Spanish Point Boat Club I 4-2 in an exciting see-saw battle.

The home team took the lead after Alan Smith prevailed 64-36 over Sandys Boat Club captain Martin Siese in the opening frame.

However, the visitors immediately bounced back as Paul Fedden brought the teams level with a crushing 53-8 defeat over Chris Dakin in the first of 2 frames between the rivals.

The series took another twist after Point captain Stewart Greenslade beat Sandys Peter Bromby 61-21 to put the hosts back in front.

The tight battle continued to heat up when Bromby took out Point’s Todd Dziak 61-27 in the fourth frame to bring the teams level again.

Siese then overcame Point’s Greenslade on the black ball 58-52 in the next frame to put the visitors ahead for the first time.

Fedden then sealed the deal for Sandys after prevailing 85-30 over Dakin in the second frame between the rivals.

Also recording a come-from-behind victory was hosts Watford Sports Club who beat Warwick Workmen’s Club I.

The home team were forced to play catch up after Warwick’s Winslow Smith beat rival Keino Zuill 45-33.

However, the visitors lead was short-lived as Watford captain Aaron Bean equalised in the next frame after taking out Warwick's Sherun Zuill 60-15.

Trevor Mouchette gave the hosts the lead after prevailing over Warwick's Pamela Bremar on the black ball 57-55, in the first of 2 frames between the pair.

Bean then dispatched Smith 49-24 in the next frame to extend Watford's lead.

The next frame saw Watford’s Keino Zuill defeat sibling Sherun Zuill 58-38 while Mouchette got past Bremar 47-13 to complete the sweep against his female rival.

In a make-up game from the previous week, Warwick II recorded a 6-0 whitewash over stablemates Warwick I.

Warwick II captain Steven Bremar Sr beat Warwick I’s Smith 55-39 and 56-23 in back -to -back frames between the pair.

DeSilva then recorded straight 59-30 and 53-13 wins over Pamela Bremar to extend Warwick II’s advantage.

Barnes completed the sweep after taking down Sherun Zuill 54-22 and 52-20 in the two encounters between the rivals.
