It is a time for transition at the top of the Bermuda Volleyball Asssociation as respected co-president Elisabeth Rae steps down after 20 years at the helm.

Rae will be replaced by Brandon Sousa, who this year represented Bermuda in beach volleyball at the Eastern Caribbean Championships

The BVA paid tribute to Rae’s time leading the organisation as the driving force behind its strategy

“Beth has been an invaluable asset to the BVA, bringing passion, unwavering dedication, and exceptional leadership skills to the organisation,” a statement read.

“Throughout her tenure, Beth has dedicated herself tirelessly to the BVA and has played a pivotal role in elevating the sport of volleyball in Bermuda. Under her guidance, she exemplified exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to all aspects of volleyball, from recreational through to our elite programme.

“She was pivotal in our strategic direction and the driving force behind numerous initiatives and accomplishments which has propelled growth and success within our organisation, not to mention strengthening our local community partnerships and related overseas governing bodies.

“On behalf of the BVA and all of our members, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Beth for her outstanding contributions and wish her the very best in this new phase of her life and congratulate Brandon for taking on this additional responsibility.”

Rae looks back with pride on her two decades of steering the organisation.

“I have truly cherished my time servicing the BVA and have taken great pride in contributing to the growth and development of volleyball in our community,” she said.

“Over the years, we have achieved significant milestones and made remarkable progress in promoting the sport we are passionate about.

“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the BVA and for the memorable experiences and friendships that I will forever cherish. I wish the Association continued success and growth in the future.”

BVA co-president Lisa LeBlanc has welcomed the appointment of Sousa to the leadership team.

“While we miss Beth greatly, Brandon brings a wealth of experience and expertise having already served on the executive for a few years and is embracing his new role as co‐president,” LeBlanc said.

“We have a very skilful team of executive members and directors and I’m excited that Brandon has joined me in leading our organisation to even greater heights. He has a deep understanding of the sport, a proven track record in leadership, and simply knows how to get the job done.”

For his part, Sousa takes pride in being appointed to his new position

“I am honoured to accept the position as co‐president of the Bermuda Volleyball Association,” Sousa said.

“I am fully committed to working alongside the board of directors, executive, and all other members to further the growth and development of volleyball in Bermuda. I look forward to contributing my passion and dedication to this exciting journey.”
