Joint Statement on Palestine to be read at City Hall
Local organisations and activists will voice their concern for the children of Palestine this week.
Glenn Fubler, from Imagine Bermuda, said this joint statement aligns with Unesco’s recent call for global action during the ongoing Israel-Hamas War.
Sandy De Silva, the executive director of Family Centre, contributed to the statement, which will be read out at City Hall tomorrow.
Highlighting how children are affected by war, Dr De Silva said: “War-affected children lose their sense of being protected, which can have long-term detrimental effects on their sense of safety in the world and on their ability to have healthy relationships.
“These impacts in childhood may adversely affect the life trajectory of children far more than adults.
“Long after the war has ended, children’s lives will never attain the potential they had before the impact of war.
“The experience of indifference from the surrounding world, or, worse still, malevolence may cause children to suffer loss of meaning and identity in the world.
“Family Centre proudly joins in this collective public effort to back Unesco’s efforts to protect all war affected children.”
Wednesday’s free event, What About the Children, will run from 12.45pm until 1.15pm.
