Jewish community displays one ribbon for each hostage
A Jewish community group in Bermuda has started a yellow ribbon campaign to stand with the hostages taken by Hamas last month.
The Jewish Community of Bermuda displayed 240 ribbons — one for each person abducted by Hamas — outside its headquarters on St John’s Road in Pembroke.
A JCB spokeswoman said: “The Jewish Community of Bermuda sees the display of yellow ribbons not just as a symbol of hope and solidarity for the hostages and their families, but as a heartfelt expression of support for innocent civilians in Israel and Gaza who are facing unimaginable circumstances.”
The display is in response to the abduction of men, women, children and seniors by Hamas fighters on October 7. Of the hostages, 32 are children.
The militant group has since released four hostages, two Americans and two Israelis, since the attack, while an unconfirmed number have died in captivity.
The JCB spokeswoman said that the names of the abducted children have each been written on a ribbon and displayed.
She added that the ribbons will remain until the hostages are reunited with their families.
