A cruise ship passenger who was stopped by police in Paget yesterday has been disqualified from driving all vehicles on the island for 18 months.

Derrick Victorino, 37, admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

The court heard that police stopped Victorino, who lives in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, near the Paget petrol station on Middle Road after receiving a call about an impaired bike rider.

Both Victorino and his pillion passenger were unsteady on their feet and officers found miniature bottles of alcohol inside their bike seat.

Victorino was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed 169 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Victorino, who is celebrating his honeymoon on the island, apologised to the court for the incident.

In addition to being banned, Victorino was fined $1,500.
