Government hires new director of social insurance
Gershon Gibbons has been appointed as the Government’s director of social insurance.
Mr Gibbons, who will work under the direction of the financial secretary, will be responsible for overseeing the Social Insurance Pension and Benefits Programme, Health Insurance Plan and FutureCare Plan.
A spokeswoman for the Cabinet Office said: “With more than 20 years of experience within the Government of Bermuda, Mr Gibbons has held various public service positions since 2002. Most recently, he held the position of manager of compensation and benefits, a position he held for 14 years.”
In that position, Mr Gibbons was responsible for all aspects of the employee payroll, including weekly and monthly employee payments.
He was also responsible for administering employee benefits, including health insurance enrolment, government pensions funds, public service superannuation funds and minister and members of the legislature, contributions, and pensioner payments.
Mr Gibbons previously worked as a senior portfolio accountant and senior fund accountant in the private sector.
He is a graduate of American International College, where he obtained a bachelor of science in business administration with a major in accounting.
Mr Gibbons serves as a member of the Bermuda Credit Union’s board of directors.
