Arnold Manders is hoping retain his position as president when the Bermuda Cricket Board holds its annual meeting at Young Men's Social Club tonight.

Manders, 64, has held the presidency since 2020, when he defeated incumbent Lloyd Smith 8-5 to secure a three-year term.

The former Bermuda all-rounder has indicated that this will be his final term should he get a fresh mandate from the island’s 13 clubs, but expressed his desire to complete the BCB’s five-year strategic plan, which was crafted under his leadership in 2022.

“I'm going for one more term so I can see through my strategic plan,’’ Manders said.

“This is the second year of the plan so I've got three more years left. We've achieved every goal from year one to year two without much funding.

“We got through the pandemic and we were one of the first countries to play cricket during Covid-19.

“We've got youth cricket up and running and we've seen an improvement in the senior national team’s performance. We've got more qualified coaches and we've improved the infrastructure.

“In our five-year strategic plan, we said by the end of it that we want to be ranked in the low to mid-twenties. We've already moved up from 34 to 29 in one year and we still have two years left.”

Also up for election at the meeting is the position of treasurer, which is held by Tracey Pitt, as well as the three club representative roses, which are occupied by Peter Philpott, Jon Carey and Adrian Burrows.

The BCB has received no notice of any potential challengers but its constitution makes provision for members seeking election to make themselves known on the night of voting.

“The nominations ideally should come in before the AGM,’’ Manders said.

“However, if somebody decides to run they can do so on the night, but the clubs must vote to allow them to take part.”
