Christmas display takes men home for the holidays
A handmade Christmas display takes four Indian guest workers home for the holidays.
Centred around sustainability, the piece, called The Chefs Crib, is made from Styrofoam boxes, egg shells, dried tree branches and other materials that are often thrown out.
Pembroke housemates Prinol Dias, Dixon Lopes, Bryan Rebello and Avhijeet Pereira all worked on the crib an hour a day for several days.
“Christmas is celebrated on a grand scale in Mumbai, and people make cribs to keep the feeling of Christmas alive,” Mr Dias said.
He added that Mr Rebello, a chef, began designing and building the piece “with great planning and precision” more than a month ago.
Mr Dias explained: “Even though Bryan works longer hours, the making of the crib was prioritised.”
He also said the piece made the men’s Marsh Folly apartment “feel like home again”.
