Almost $1.7 million in contracts were signed this year to build new bathrooms and classrooms for the island’s first parish primary schools.

According to figures released recently by the Ministry of Public Works, a $1,052,000 contract was signed to build a stand-alone structure housing four classrooms and restrooms at Purvis Primary.

A $686,500 contract was signed to build two new classrooms and restrooms in the Lyceum Building at Francis Patton Primary.

Daniels Construction was awarded the first contract, while Limestone Holdings was awarded the second. Both contracts were awarded on July 3, with delivery dates at the end of March 2024.

The contracts were some of several linked to work at the island’s schools revealed recently in the Official Gazette as part of requirements under Pati legislation.

Limestone Holdings was awarded an $80,000 contract for external painting works at Harrington Sound Primary School, while Daycor Painting Contractors was awarded a $59,200 contract for internal repainting at the school.

Huntley Construction Services was awarded a $69,850 contract for external painting at Francis Patton Primary, while Lisa’s Painting won a $51,500 contract for internal repainting at the school

A-Tec Contracting Services was awarded a $60,000 contract for external painting at the Gilbert Institute, while KP Maintenance was awarded a $50,162 contract for internal painting at Purvis Primary School.

The Ministry of Public Works listed several other contracts that crossed the $50,000 threshold, including a $411,926.72 contract for renovations to the washrooms at Warwick Camp.

A $261,300 contract was awarded for design proposals for a new maintenance yard at Marsh Folly and a $141,365.05 contract was signed for modernisation of the elevator system at Global House.

A $281,896.93 contract was signed for internal design work at the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building, while an $80,130 contract was signed for engineering design consultant services at the same building.
