Bills on left must be retired today. Bills on right are still legal tender in the new year.
Friday marks the final day to trade the island’s old-fashioned currency for modern banknotes.
The horizontally oriented bills are being retired on Monday, January 1, 2024 and will no longer have value, the Bermuda Monetary Authority said.
The vertical banknotes were first circulated in 2009, marking the first complete redesign of the island’s cash in decades.
New bills were introduced for the 40th anniversary of the BMA and 400 years since Bermuda’s settlement began in 1609.
Although “legacy” notes stopped being accepted in stores from January 1, 2014, the BMA allowed them to be traded in for new bills for another decade.
Credit unions and banks will be open on Friday to accept notes for deposit or exchange.
