Bermudian-based R&Q Insurance Holdings Ltd has confirmed the retirement of cofounder Alan Quilter, who has also stepped down from the company’s board of directors.

R&Q, the non-life global specialty insurance company focusing on programme management and legacy insurance businesses, announced last March that Mr Quilter, group head of programme management, would retire from R&Q and the board at the end of the year.

The company said he would stay on in an advisory capacity for a period of time.

Jeff Hayman, the chairman of R&Q, said: "On behalf of the board and everyone at R&Q, I want to thank Alan for everything he has contributed.

“It is over 30 years since Alan cofounded R&Q and he has been instrumental in the group's history.

“During his tenure at R&Q, Alan has held a range of roles, including CFO and CEO. More recently, he has been central in the successful growth of Accredited as it developed into a leading global programme manager.

“I also know that many past and present employees have benefited from Alan's mentorship and collaborative leadership style. We wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement."
