Police made 23 arrests over the New Year’s holiday, including six for impaired driving and four for possession of a bladed article.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service provided an update of policing activity that took place from 5pm on Friday, December 29 to 5am Tuesday.

Additional arrests were made for various other offences while 21 traffic tickets were issued over the period.

The spokesman said: “Four local males were arrested for possession of bladed articles in three separate incidents, with court appearances pending.

“One male was arrested during a traffic initiative in St George’s, the afternoon of January 1; another male was arrested in the early morning hours of January 1 on Front Street, City of Hamilton; while the other two males were arrested the night of December 31 after being stopped for a traffic infraction by mobile patrol officers in Paget.

“Court appearances are also anticipated for six people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, with three failing the alco-analyser test and three refusing to take it.

“BPS patrol officers issued five tickets to motorists for not having a driver’s licence; four tickets for not having vehicle insurance; four tickets for operating an unlicensed vehicle; four tickets for speeding; two tickets for having illegal licence plates; one ticket for driving without due care and one ticket for permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

“In addition, 14 motorist advice notices or official written warnings, were also issued.”
