Several roads around the island will be closed next week because of the Bermuda Triangle Challenge.

The Ministry of Public Works said that the first closure is scheduled for January 12 and will affect Front Street from Spurling Hill to the Bird Cage for the Butterfield Mile, the challenge’s first event, to take place.

The area will be closed from 6pm to 10pm, and all westbound traffic will be diverted up Spurling Hill and along Reid Street during this time.

The weekend’s second race, the BF&M 10K Run and Walk, will take place on January 13.

Participants will start from the National Sports Centre at 9am, continue on Montpelier Road to Middle Road, then towards Flatts Village.

They will then head west on North Shore Road on to Palmetto Road, to Frog Lane and finish at the National Sports Centre.

Stretches of Parsons Road, Montpelier Road, Frog Lane, Palmetto Road, Old Military Road and Middle Road will be closed to all traffic between 8.45am and 11am.

The eastbound lane along Middle Road, from Verdmont Road to Flatts Village near Harrington Sound Road, will also be closed, and no westbound traffic will be allowed along North Shore Road from Flatts Village to the Barkers Hill roundabout, and on parts of Palmetto Road and BFA Way during this time.

Parking in areas at Parsons Road, BFA Way, Fort Hill Road, Flatts Village, Frog Lane and Montpelier Road will be closed on Saturday.

The race weekend will conclude with the PwC marathon, half marathon and half marathon relay events on January 14.

Marathon racers will begin on Camber Road in Dockyard and head to South Road through to Devil’s Hole Hill in Smith’s, continue on North Shore Road to Spanish Point and finish at Barr’s Bay Park in Hamilton.

All roads in Dockyard will be closed from 6am to 6.45am, and several roadways going east to South Road’s junction with Middle Road in Southampton will be closed periodically between 6.45am and 9.45am.

No eastbound traffic will be allowed from South Road’s junction with Middle Road in Southampton to its junction with Devil’s Hole Hill from 7.15am to 11.15am.

The half marathon and relay will start at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club at 7am, continue to Trimingham Road, on to South Road to Devil’s Hole Hill, along North Shore Road and also end at Barr’s Bay Park.

Pitt’s Bay Road, between Bermudiana Road and the Hamilton Princess, will be closed between 7.30am and 3pm, and Flora Duffy Hill, between Middle Road and Crow Lane in Paget, will be closed from 8.30am to 10am.

Trimingham Road, between the north and south roundabouts, will be closed to traffic during the same time on Sunday.

The ministry authorised the Bermuda Police Service to close or open any other streets as determined by the commissioner.
