FC Bascome 1 Robin Hood 1 (FC Bascome win 5-4 on penalties)

FC Bascome midfielder Mosias Mills put in a great second-half display to guide his team to victory in the Charles Marshall Cup against Robin Hood at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence last night.

Mills, voted FC Bascome MVP, opened the scoring for them in the 64th minute and also scored his team’s first penalty in the shoot-out to claim their first title in the under-18 competition.

It was the 15-year-old’s second goal in two matches after he scored in the 2-1 victory over Somerset Trojans in the semi-finals.

Brighton Morrison, the Hood MVP equalised in the 75th minute and while he was on target in the shoot-out, his team lost by one kick after Chazz Knight saved Olek Rymon Lipinski's penalty.

Mosias, son of FC Bascome under-18 coach Mark Mills, was delighted to win it for his team, considering that they came into the final as the dark horses.

“It feels good especially coming in as huge underdogs,’’ he said.

“Everybody thought we were going to lose. We had to bring the game to them, we worked hard for this.

“It means a lot for me and my team, it’s a big victory. We had the youngest team in the league and it’s massive for us to win this competition.”

Hood thrashed Dandy Town 7-0 on their way to the final and were the favourites to lift the cup.

Rymon-Lipinski, Reza Ziai and Sami Carolo took turns to test Knight.

Mills had the first chance for FC Bascome in the 25th minute when he went for goal from inside the box, only for the ball to deflect off a Hood defender for a corner.

The FC Bascome MVP had another opportunity in the 53rd minute but he could not get his shot past Hood goalkeeper Keyan Webb.

Chance Eve wasted a glorious chance to open the scoring for Hood in the 62nd minute. Two minutes later, Hood were punished when Mills opened the scoring, his shot taking a deflection off a defender and sailing over a badly positioned Webb.

The goal brought FC Bascome alive. Mills almost added a second in 70th minute but Hood survived after a great block by Morrison.

Hood regained their confidence, with Morrison leading their efforts for an equaliser. He levelled matters 15 minutes before the end with a delightful free kick and after 90 minutes, the match was decided on penalties.
