Runaway leaders Devonshire Colts stretched their advantage at the top of the First Division after beating fellow promotion hopefuls Robin Hood in a tight affair at Police Field on Sunday.

Keino Burch gave Colts the lead in the eighteenth minute but Hood came storming back with experienced forward Clay Darrell grabbing an equaliser from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.

Colts regained the lead through Chemarl Henry’s 49th-minute strike as they returned to winning ways after suffering a shock 3-1 defeat by lowly St David’s Warriors in the Shield final on New Year’s Day.

“Good bounce-back game after the final loss on New Year’s Day,” Colts coach Ray Jones told The Royal Gazette.

“We started well and had full control of the game in the first half. Second half was more of a scrappy affair as the conditions played a big part.”

The result means Colts are looking increasingly unassailable at the top of the table with their lead now 11 points.

“It was good to create more separation from the rest of the pack,” Jones added.

Boulevard edged lowly Vasco 1-0 at Goose Gosling Field on Saturday night to leapfrog Hood into the remaining promotion spot.

Bottom team Ireland Island Rangers picked up their first win of the season after edging Somerset Eagles 2-1 in another close battle at White Hill Field on Sunday.

The remaining second-tier clash featured St David’s Warriors and Southampton Rangers battling to a 1-1 stalemate at Lord’s.

Warriors led 1-0 at the interval courtesy of Christen Lugo Elibox’s 29th-minute goal before Dominique Hill brought the teams level in the 64th minute to rescue a point for Rangers.
