Two men refused to take breath tests despite police instructions, a magistrate heard yesterday.

Woodren Burrows, 62, and Justin Easton, 36, admitted the offence when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that Burrows, from Sandys, collided with two cars while riding his bike on Somerset Road on October 2.

Burrows refused to take a breath test at the scene and at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured foot and road rash sustained from the incident.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin then heard that police caught Easton, from Warwick, speeding at 69km/h along Crow Lane on December 7.

Officers saw that Easton’s eyes were red and smelt alcohol on his breath after he pulled over near King Street, but he refused to take a breath test several times.

Mr Chin fined Easton $1,500 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

The magistrate ordered that Burrows, who admitted having a problem with alcohol, participate in DUI Court beginning on January 16 and released him on $1,500 bail until that time.

Burrows was also disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice.
