The Swizzle Inn is a family tradition

Among the oldest and arguably Bermuda’s most famous pub, the Swizzle Inn at Bailey’s Bay has remained a popular hot spot for good food and great entertainment since 1932.

Thanks to the legendary rum swizzle, a potent mix of Gosling’s rums and fruit juices perfect for sharing and irresistible to locals and tourists alike, the Swizzle Inn is infamous for just that — swizzling in and swaggering out.

The “Swizzle”, as it is known affectionately, was established in a 17th century roadhouse and has been owned and operated by the Correia family since 1962.

Current proprietor Jay Correia took over in 1990 from his parents, Johnny and Jackie Correia, the husband and wife team who ran the initial business and saw to the opening of the restaurant in 1973.

2002 marked the 40th anniversary of the business being under the ownership of the Correia family, which coincided with Jay’s 40th birthday.

Under Jay Correia’s leadership, the pub in Bailey’s Bay has seen several changes, including the opening of the second floor to dinning and the introduction of the gift shop in 1992, and the expansion of the patios and parking lot in 2000.

The one thing that has never changed, however, has been the unique pub area with its graffiti, business card covered walls and rustic furniture and fixtures.

Located minutes away from the Island’s only international airport, The Swizzle Inn is one of the first places visitors notice upon their arrival and it may also be one of the last, as it has become a traditional spot for one last drink before flying out.

To really get a feel for how well the pub is liked, all one needs to do is read one of the many autographed photos that adorn the walls of the dining area, with thank you and good luck messages from the world over.
