A chance to learn ancient African wisdom

The women of Bermuda will soon have the opportunity to experience and learn some ancient African wisdom.

Participants in a weekend retreat with Sobonfu Some will work alongside her learning the Dagara grief tradition of her native Burkina Faso.

Sobonfu Some is one of the foremost voices in African spirituality.

She travels the world on a healing mission, sharing the rich spiritual life of her West African culture.

She is the author of ‘The Spirit of Intimacy, Women’s Wisdom from the Heart of Africa, and Falling Out of Grace’. Her message is about the importance of spirit, community and ritual in our lives.

As founder of Wisdom Spring, Inc., an organisation dedicated to the preservation and sharing of indigenous wisdom, she holds fundraisers for wells, schools and health projects in Africa.

Sobonfu often tours the United States and Europe sharing the knowledge of her people.

Aamirah Branch-Sticca, editor of New Horizons Magazine who are hosting the event said: “Participants will embark on a journey as a “village” — building sacred places that will provide a place to absorb ‘unresolved feelings of grief and loss’.

Sobonfu will share her personal experiences and the wisdom of her tribe.

The ancient teachings of the Dagara people as shared through Sobonfu will provide a deeply powerful and safe space to support the release of anger, fear, guilt, numbness, indifference, frustration and grief about all the losses we have endured in this lifetime.”

The retreat will take place from June 1-3 and is open to women of all backgrounds.

The cost is $495 per person and includes all meals and transport to and from Paget Island.

Registration before May 30 is required. To register, contact Aamirah at 441-735-3471 or email editor[AT]newhorizonsmag.net.
