Dandy Town keen to continue improvement against PHC
Dandy Town will be looking to maintain their winning form in the Premier Division when they travel to PHC Field to take on champions PHC Zebras today (8pm).
Aaron Denkins’s team put an end to a three-game losing streak courtesy of a hard fought 3-2 win away to Young Men’s Social Club in their previous league outing and will now look to continue their winning ways against Zebras.
Town captain Angelo Simmons described the match as “vitally important” as his team attempt to finish the season on firm footing.
“We are trying to make a push and get up the table, so it’s very important for us,” Simmons said.
“Every game is important for us and we are just trying to take it one game at a time.
“We are trying to finish the season strong and with a trophy but are focusing on the league right now.
"We are just taking it one step at a time. Players are coming back from injuries and so the team is getting stronger and stronger. We are humble, focused and on a mission.”
Town are sixth in the table, 13 points adrift of leaders North Village and seven above the relegation zone.
Zebras also have plenty to play for as they trail Village by a solitary point and are heading into the clash with a psychological edge after winning the first league encounter between the rivals 2-1 at Goose Gosling Field in November.
Devonshire Cougars, the other team in the three-way title race, lost precious ground on Thursday night after losing 1-0 to Somerset Trojans, whose bid to avoid relegation received a much needed boost.
Premier Division action also takes place on Sunday as Village take on St George’s Colts at Bernard Park in a match of vital importance to both teams.
Kenny Thompson’s side will be keen to maintain their lead at the summit while seventh-place St George’s hope to distance themselves further from the relegation picture.
Elsewhere, Paget Lions play host to Hamilton Parish at Southampton Oval. Both teams sit on 14 points heading into the clash, with fourth-place Parish ahead on goal difference.
Bottom side X-Roads Warriors host Young Men’s Social Club at Lord’s in the remaining top-flight contest on offer tomorrow.
Social Club are heading into the encounter in eighth, four points above the relegation zone, and they will be keen to get back to winning ways after losing their previous two league outings.
Southampton Rangers take on fellow promotion hopefuls Boulevard Blazers in an intriguing First Division clash at Southampton Oval today.
Only two points separate second-place Boulevard from fifth-place Rangers, who trail fourth place Wolves on goal difference.
Unbeaten leaders Devonshire Colts take on St David’s Warriors at Lord’s tomorrow on Sunday in a repeat of the Shield final, which the latter won 3-1 on New Year’s Day.
Robin Hood, who are third in the league, will be keen to get their promotion bid back on track against Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field after losing 2-1 to leaders Colts in their previous outing.
Hood trail Boulevard by a point heading into their match, with eighth-place Eagles, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home against bottom side Ireland Island Rangers in their previous outing.
Wolves will also be determined to keep their promotion bid on track when they square off with seventh-place Vasco at Bernard Park in the remaining First Division encounter on Sunday.
