PHC assumed first place in the Premier Division with a victory over a disappointing Dandy Town on Saturday night.

The Zebras feasted at home on a Hornets outfit still struggling to incorporate cohesion, consistency and, most importantly, goals in their performance despite half the season now complete.

PHC had their way from the outset, with a pair of first-half goals from Kadeem Abraham giving the home side an early cushion and second-half strikes from Enrique Russell and Zakiya Lee adding further confirmation.

The three points means the Warwick club are now a point clear of North Village, who were held to a 3-3 draw by St George’s at Bernard Park on Sunday.

Kenny Thompson’s side fought back from a 3-1 deficit at half-time to rescue a point, with Jalen Harvey’s 89th-minute goal completing the comeback.

St George’s, who have struggled for consistency this season and started the game in seventh position, made a flying start to the game and were 2-0 up inside the first ten minutes.

Winger Blaiz Hall made the breathrough in just the fifth minute with Jibri Sallam doubling the advantage in the ninth minute as St George’s threatened to pull off a shock victory.

Village stalwart Tre Ming halved the deficit in the 23rd minute before Hall restored St George’s two-goal advantage a minute before half-time.

Thompson’s team talk at the interval provoked the necessary response from Village, who pulled a goal back when Ming scored his second of the game in the 61st minute.

St George’s defended valiantly and just when it looked like they might hold on to claim a vital three points, Harvey popped up to level the scores a minute from the end of normal time.

This year’s Premier Division title race is shaping up to be a three-way thriller, with PHC top on 27 points, Village just a point behind on 26 and Devonshire Cougars, who lost 1-0 to relegation-threatened Somerset Trojans on Thursday night, sitting third on 25, with all three teams having seven games left to play.

The Premier Divison is on hold for a fortnight, with the first round of the FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend.

League leaders PHC travel to Southampton Oval on Saturday afternoon to take on First Division Southampton Rangers, while North Village welcome Young Men’s Social Club to Bernard Park a day later.

There are two more all-Premier Divison ties taking place on Sunday afternoon, with Hamilton Parish squaring off against Paget at Wellington Oval and Dandy Town taking on Somerset at Goose Gosling Field.

The first round kicks off on Thursday night when First Division Boulevard Blazers play St George’s at Goose Gosling Field, while Devonshire Cougars will battle Robin Hood at Devonshire Rec on Friday night.

The final two ties feature Tuff Dogs, of the Corona League heading to St David’s to play Premier Division strugglers X-Roads, with Devonshire Colts taking on St David’s at Police Field.
