Mirrors is inviting its US partner and a team of international facilitators to participate in a workshop for local educators and youth workers.

The youth development programme is bringing Quantum Learning Global to the island for the event, which aims to enhance and broaden the Mirrors programme while a new cohort of local facilitators will be given training.

Mirrors is also running its Super Camp Junior Forum at which the trainee facilitators will have the opportunity to put their new skills into practice.

Kimberley Jackson, programme manager at Mirrors, said: “We will learn from Quantum Learning Global and they will learn from us in how we do our camp.

“We are conducting our youth programme, where we will showcase our new social and emotional development curriculum.

“It has been developed by Cheyenne Foster, programme developer and lead trainer at Quantum Learning Global, who has a PhD in the social and emotional learning space.

“Their partners from around the world, who use the same curriculum for their programmes, will also be coming to the workshop. They are coming from the US, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.

“There is the opportunity for five Bermudians to become local facilitators in delivering Mirrors Quantum Learning Global curriculum. It’s a good opportunity to get trained on our soil. Usually you have to go to the US for this training.”

Facilitator training will take place in the evenings after each day of the camp and successful candidates will be contracted to facilitate for Mirrors’ future camps.

Ms Jackson added: “We want to build our capacity of local facilitators for those who love to work with young people.”

The 2024 Educators and Youth Workers Workshop takes place on February 10 from 9am to 3.30pm at Willowbank Resort in Southampton. It costs $100 to participate, which includes lunch, materials and a goodie bag.

It is billed as “a rejuvenating experience” that equips participants to develop today’s young people. The promotional material said: “You will feel energised, invigorated and more confident to establish an empowering culture that develops the social and emotional capacity of the young people you engage.“

The workshop aims to help participants experience practical strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with educators and youth workers from around the world and explore innovative approaches to education and youth development.

Mirrors said the Quantum Learning Global curriculum was a “relevant, research-backed, growth-focused transformational model”.

It added: “Through quantum learning, leaders, facilitators and educators create a dynamic and engaging learning culture where youth advance their development of leadership, critical thinking, solution finding and collaboration.”

Mirrors’ Super Camp Junior Forum is a five-day camp aimed at middle school students. It takes place from February 12 to February 16 from 9am to 5pm at Willowbank Resort.

It aims to be fun and interactive while developing social and emotional skills, and strengthening family relationships.

The eight “Keys of Excellence” are the foundation on which the camp is built. The eight keys are: integrity; failure leads to success; speak with good purpose; this is it; commitment; ownership; flexibility; and balance.

Mirrors said: “Early adolescence is a pivotal time when children are beginning to develop higher-order thinking skills, establish healthy social interactions and define a sense of self and personal values.

“Junior Forum focuses on establishing positive character traits, cultivating a mature sense of self, and building effective learning skills.”

The camp is open to 50 participants on a first-come-first-served basis and is free of charge. However, parent workshop attendance is required on February 10 from 9am to 3.30pm.

Anyone wishing to take part in the educators and youth workers workshop can register here.

Anyone interested in becoming a facilitator can call 294-9291.
